The idea for the Nanotube Synthesis Site emerged at the NASA/Rice workshop on Single-Wall Nanotube Synthesis in 2003.

On a trial basis, we decided to make the results of our discussion available to the scientific community on the web, and to open up a shared database focused on single-wall nanotube synthesis. This effort would be coordinated by experts in the respective fields. The basic idea includes the following:

• A web-based database dedicated to synthesis, with dynamical links
• Similar/Linked to The Nanotube Site http://www.pa.msu.edu/cmp/csc/nanotube.html
• Objective:
  Provide references, links, and state-of-the-art information for techniques to grow SWNTs
• Current "Section Editors" include:
  • High-Pressure CO Conversion (HiPCO) -- Pavel Nikolaev
  • Pulsed-Lased Vaporization (PLV) -- Oliver Jost
  • Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) -- Daniel E. Resasco & Jose E. Herrera
  • Carbon Arc Discharge (CA) -- David Tomanek (temporary)
• The responsibility of the Editors is to moderate and collect material for a particular topic.
