    Suggestions/Critique:
The organization of the poster sessions needs to be better. By Thursday, July 3 the spread out format was much better and did not jam up the space between poster boards.
The format for the schedule only gave the names of the speakers and had poor correlation to the abstracts since the schedule did not include the titles of the abstracts. There appeared to be an attempt to have the abstracts listed sequentially but this fell apart along the way. We had to find the author by name to find the title and abstract. Where the papers did not have titles and were to be announced, I would have thought that by the time of the conference the author could have at least provided a top
I was extremely pleased with the content presented by all the speakers and with few exceptions thought the authors did a very good job with the presentations.
I thought that the facillities were exceptional as was the tour and the banquet. The lunches were very good and should stay included in order to keep people in the facility and to keep things running on time.
Over all I was extremely pleased with the conference and suggest the organizational improvements listed above.

I most liked the grouping of posters by sub-category and the quality of talks.
The poster sessions were much better after spreading the posters from each session so that one could reach and discuss the posters with the authors. Prior to the spreading (sessions A, B, and C), the posters were too close to be able to read them and discuss them reasonably.

I do not know what submission system was used in NT06 and NT07, but I like this year submission system very much.
Most problems were with poster sessions. Poster presentations were not so informatiove as it should be sometimes, I think. Poster positioning was not good. But it was changed to session D.
All the other things were good, I think. It was many interesting lections and peoples.

I like the present format of NT conference, specially non-parallel session.
But, usually, poster presentation is quite messy.. it might be better to have one poster session per one day only in larger area without other posters belong to different sessions.

I think NT08 was well-orginzed. It was fantastic. The taks and presentations were impressive. The introductions of each poster session presented by chiarman were best, so I could know the whole contents in advance. However, it seems to be in a hurry. If there were much more time for that, I think the chairman could say more.

I liked both NT08 and NT07. Except the NT08 book of abstract, it was impossible to follow talks in the same sessions, one had to switch back and forth from Keynote, to Invited and Contributed. Date and time of talks should be indicated by the abstract.
In my view the most important challenge of the NT conference series, and the study of nanotubes in general, is how to keep its relevance with (against?) the uprise of graphene. No doubt that NTs are, and probably will be in the future, "strong" in materials science, but in the field of fundamental physics it is quite evident that graphene is stealing the spotlight. I think this is a sort of crossroads for the NT conferences.

    Suggestions/Critique:
Here's a few things that came to my mind:
-The number of posters was nearing pain treshold. I understand the importance of giving equal opportunity for people to present their work, but I think some sort of discrimination must be implemented sooner or later. Probably the scientifically most justified one would be to screen all posters on the exact same subject for the highest quality works. Also, one could perhaps require that people actually make POSTERS, not just tape some A4s together, if they really are serious about it.
-In terms of limiting size, another hard suggestion would be to consider splitting graphene off into a pre or post conference day (or two). But that would be pretty drastic, I admit.
-Though the level of the speeches was rather good, there are some gripes: firstly, I think the whole conference would benefit if the keynote speakers devoted about half of their time to reviewing the current state of their field and the recent developments. Some speakers did this admirably, some less (even though all the keynote speakers clearly showed that they were there not just because of their fame).
-Secondly, invited speakers should do the same, perhaps with a slightly narrower scope, for at least about a third of the time. Also, some speakers failed to reference just about any other work than their own, which I don't think is at all appropriate for an invited talk (or any other for that matter!).
-Thirdly, there might be some reason to consider the selection of the contributed talks a little. Though mostly they were rather interesting, there were a few lackluster performances which left at least me pondering what was the reason this speaker had a slot in a full plenary session.
-The sound guys were the single most disappointing technical issue. How hard is it to put the mic on the speaker properly? Or put the line level up before some poor person is left wondering whether the mic is broken? Video, however, was excellent, which rather underscored the problems with sound.
That's about it, othervise it was an extremely fulfilling experience and now have an even firmer resolve to do the research it takes to see you all in Beijing next year. :)

I believe the conference could be improved by including:
    1) contributions from the manufacturers that are currently producing tonnes of material addressing issues such as: types of CNTs being produced; what properties do they want; current and future uses; and problems that are being encountered. Companies that come to mind are Bayer and Nanocyl, but they are not the only ones.
    2) more material on the health implications with papers from experienced researchers. (The contributions would need to be carefully selected because the science is extremely difficult). Specifically, what are the health implications of trace concentrations of CNTs in the environment and workplace. (I don't believe studies using mass concentrations of CNTs are useful).
    3) The large number of posters, although emphasising the activity in the field, make it very difficult to identify the posters of key interest: Is there some way to get a theme into poster submissions?
I did like the poster overviews, the absence of parallel sessions, and the emphasis on informality. The opening ceremony and social event help in setting a good atmosphere for the conference.

The organization was perfect! Especially I have to mention the quality and the service for lunch and dinner. This sets standards!
The lecture hall and the congress centre was also a very good choice.
The room for the poster sessions was however rather limited.
It would be good that there is enough space and time for posters.
I know, it is difficult to realize, but it would be of great advantage to have the posters available all over the conference time.

The NT'08 conference was a very enriching one and I was lucky I could participate.
Things I liked the most were : the quality of the talks; the very wide range of subjects presented, both in talks and poster sessions, including physics, chemistry, biology and even medicine; the easy possibility to talk with many renowned researchers from so many countries ... And a perfect organization.
Concerning the poster sessions, it is very good to regroup all of the posters from one field into one session. However, the session one is presenting a poster in most probably includes posters one is most interested in - thus preventing from having time to discuss with researchers who are working in the same field. Maybe it would be useful to spread a little bit the subjects during the sessions, and not regroup all of them into one.
I thank again the organizers for such an interesting conference. And I wish them as much success in future NT conferences.

I think overall the organisation was very good. The first three poster sessions were a bit crowded, but the reorganisation for the next sessions was a very good improvement.
It is a bit a pity that if you present a poster, you cannot walk around to discuss during the poster session you are most interested in, but I don't think there is a solution there (unless you split up poster sessions, but that would make it less logical, so that wouldn't be an improvement).
I would like to thank the organisation for their splendid work! I enjoyed the meeting and Montpellier very much.

Think of separating the "chemistry and applications" poster sessions in 2 parts, to avoid having 125 posters on the last day while only 80 on the first. Would it be possible to mix the "disciplines" during the week? It would avoid "spectroscopy" people to have all the interesting posters and talks on the first days and then get bored, and the "application" people to get bored for 2 days, then hurry up around the interesting talks and poster sessions.
I also suggest to invite some of the companies working on NT (IBM, Sony, HP, Arkema, or start-ups like nanomix, nanocyl, tubes at Rice...) to enlarge the scope and help students and postdocs to make fruitful contacts.

    What I liked most:
    - NT08 was really nice in its concept (more poster sessions, less talks). It is certainly one of the best conferences I attended so far. (Some people however told me NT07 was even better).
    What I liked least:
    - For next NT conferences, I think it would be nice to have a better equilibrium between physics and chemistry. For NT08, only Friday was really dedicated to chemistry (composites, grafting,...). Also, we mainly talked about SWCNTs. As applications are also important for the future of CNTs, it would be nice to have more contributions on MWCNTs and on their applications. Maybe it would be nice to also ask an industrial partner to give a short talk.
    - The MSIN satellite was nice but the speakers just presented their results. Not so many tried to talk about metrology. It is a little bit disappointing.
    - The tutorials were extremely boring...... It would be nice to have more a kind of review presentations on synthesis/growth mechanism, characterization, application.

    To be improved: Poster sessions:
    More space, more time.
Make sure there is really enough time and space allowing proper discussions and interactions at a poster session.
For a conference putting emphasis on posters with even more than 100 contributions per session, that's extremely important.

the most: workshops, tutorials, keynote lectures and invited talks were very interesting and well organized. Poster introduction by a chairman is a good point. Poster session well organised, I think it would have been better to have the poster exposed the whole week instead of 2 days (but still ok). Besides, I think that the second session (D,E, F) was better organised because it was definitively impossible to reach any poster an monday (too crowded).
The least: too many conferences, particularly too many contributed talks. maybe a way would be to organise the contributed talks in a different way like 2 talks at the same time in different place (chemistry & physics for instance...)

    Suggestions/Critique:
Regarding the abstract submission software, the Japanese version (style B) is better primarily because it has a search function. Waiting until after the submission deadline to make the submitted abstracts public should be easy to implement into the Japanese software.

    Other comments:
I'm not sure the poster session overview is achieving its goal. Despite being very demanding of the presenters, the overview is usually exactly what can be found in the abstract book, plus a bunch of unexplained graphs. Alan Windle's approach (pointing out trends and highlighting a few unique or impressive posters) should be the model for others to follow.
The poster session was quite uncomfortable, being too crowded and hot. The available space could have been more wisely used (e.g. all session A posters on the left side of the aisle, and all session B posters on the right side of the aisle, rather than clustering on one side of the room or the other).
The lunch need not be such a formal meal. Many people would like to use the time during lunch to check email, etc. In France, most of the lunch time was spent waiting for food. The buffet style (used in Brazil) is much more efficient when serving a large number of people.

The NT conference was organised very good. The only thing that can be improved is the information given on the website, such as length of the talks so that no emails have to be send to ask these kind of questions. Also it would be usefull to have a preliminary program online in order to be able to plan the travelling much better before and after the conference.

Audio-system in the lecture room could be better, because there was a lot of difficulties in the communication between lecturer and audience, especially during the questions. Of course that is mostly because of the different English skills but anyway, the loudspeakers don't make it any easier. Anyway, I don't have any solution for this. Maybe even translator would be useful in some cases...
Also I would propose you to organize the poster sessions right after lunch, because then its easier to stay awake with you full stomach (instead of sleeping in the lecture-room, as most of the people did).
In general, I was quite satisfied to the way it NT'08 was organized.
Maybe the organization could try to help people with the Visa-issues if its complicated in China, but I don't know how it works really.

To compare NT07 and NT08 organization, it looks like that NT07 was better. First because of the easy-to-use website of NT07 compared to the NT08 one. The informations and news were more easy to find or accessible on the NT07 website.
Concerning the conference, I think that in NT08, there have been too many talks and due to the high number of poster contributions not enough time and space dedicated to the poster.
Of course the number of participants increases each year but the charta should be respected in term of dedicated space and time to poster interactions, in term of possible interactions between students and famous searchers and in term of invitation of students or young searchers to have an oral.
Moreover, the time dedicated to graphene is more and more important and I was wondering whether it should not be better to organize a satellite on graphene instead of integrating it in the NT conference.

    A. Good points
    1. Most talks compared their own work with the state of the art and gave a nice summary about recent developments in the field. Very good.
    2. Good (local) organization in general.
    3. The way how to present the posters - almost impossible to do it better.
    4. The existence of satellite conferences
    B. Main points to improve
    1. The nanotube science has matured, new developments are mainly expected from application-oriented research. Application-oriented research was often missing from the talks, most speakers were scientists doing basic science and these often only repeated their old findings on nanotubes.
    2. The above mentioned scientists doing basic science often presented new results on graphene instead of nanotubes. Graphene is important! but does not necessarily fit the NT0x series. I would suggest for NT09 a new satellite conference on graphene, being somewhat larger than the current satellite meetings (maybe going over two days and with its own poster session). This can prepare for a future spin-off.
    3. The satellite conference MSIN failed to meet its own criteria. I would expect from a conference on metrology and applications etc. talks and contributions providing a summary of proven and validated results that can be used by all kinds of scientists for their daily work. Instead of this the speakers often did only present their own work in their own science "niches".
    4. One of the main bottlenecks in nanotube science at the moment are novel (!) ways to manipulate and to assemble nanotubes so that it becomes possible to treat them like macroscopic materials (like mesoscopic fibers). I was missing this part on the main conference. Only one of the satellite conferences (that on biology interactions) tried to partly present this kind of stuff. That was not enough.
    C. Other things to improve
    1. Too many contributions having spectroscopy as their main topic.
    2. The NT conference series is now very large and starts to become "unpersonal" with scientists spread over lots of hotels and a large conference center. It would be nice to have ONE congress hotel for the next meeting where all scientists can come together (for example in the evening) whenever they want to.

The poster sesssions were too cramped initially. Staggering the posters reduced the difficulty of getting to posters that I was interested in. The outings on Wed were excellent, but those on the later buses should have been informed that they were not going to the caves before they got on the bus. This should have been an option not an accidental discovery. The location was an excellent choice and the talks were very good.

My main complaint with the conference this year was that it was too big. Last year there was ample time to meet people and get to know them and that was not the case this year. I also wonder if it might be time to move to at least two concurrent sessions. The physics taking up the first part of the week was not particularly applicable to many people, and surely vice-versa for people at the end of the week.
I also found the website to be extremely difficult to use. The email notification system was not very good either - I received every email at least 4 times! Also, it caused a lot of problems with my credit card when I was not charged for a month and a half after receiving a "receipt" for my payment. I don't have a very high limit on my card, being a student, and I basically couldn't spend anything on my credit card because I never knew when I might be charged for NT08 registration and housing and my bank ch
It was also a bit mean that the excursion on Wednesday afternoon was planned as it was. I was lucky in getting to go to a nice wine tasting and the "better" caves. Many of my labmates were not so lucky and had gone around in "cave" clothes all day only to find that they weren't going to a cave. Either an excursion should be planned that everyone can take part in or it should be openly explained about size/time constraints and a lottery/randomized system could be envoked to assign certain people to certain t
As for my critique of the French software for abstract submission, the main problem I had was that it took me about an hour to figure out why my abstract wouldn't submit. While, yes, there was an error message you could read if it didn't go through, it was incredibly complex and impossible to deduce anything from. By trail and error I eventually figured out the problem was that I had placed an ampersand ("and" sign) in my affiliation and it apparently wasn't compatible with the software.
Looking through this, I see that I haven't said anything positive about the conference. Honestly, I was very disappointed, overall, having enjoyed Brazil so much last year. It is nice to have a sit-down lunch with everyone and the atmosphere does still remain social compared with other conferences, but I think overall the size of the conference needs to be limited.

Is it possible to divide all the days by subject’s fields: first day -processing, second one - application, etc. – when not only posters but talks are presented in one field of nanotube science?
It was crowded at all posters sections of the day, when a lot of space with past or future posters was empty. May be it should be possible to make refreshment of the posters every day.
What I like most: the poster summery – it was very expressive and showed state of the art in nanotube science.
I liked least: 1. The lunch – it was to complicated, and I think I’ll have more problems with Chinese meal for me.

i)For a poster sessions, I prefer a style used for sessions D-F rather than sessions A-C. Since the number of poster presentation is increasing, panels for poster presentation should be used as, for example, one side for session A and the other side for session B, alternatively. This arrangement is necessary to avoid people being squeezed in each aisle.
ii)Encouragement of poster-presenters toward oral talks or poster awards should be done earlier dates. This makes shapes of submitted abstracts good helping the work of poster chairs.
iii)Use of figures in abstract can be allowed, otherwise it might be difficult to check validity of experimental/computed conclusions in selecting oral talks.
iV)Since the number of presentations is increasing, the schedule of technical sessions will be tight. In that case, an excursion could be skipped. But this is just in case. Meanwhile the conference banquet and programs for accompanied persons should be kept.

decreased due to the increase of the poster number. The short presentation time
sometimes did not allow someone to visit to other posters. Is it already
impossible to get enough time for discussions at this world largeset NT
conferece? If it is true, we might have to change the style
If the conference allows multiple submissions from the same author, it requires
the capable abstract submission system or software. Maybe, one poster per
    person is better.

Thank you for organizing the NT08 conference very well. I like very much the introduction of posters before the poster section. If you allocate some more time for this introduction part, then the presenter can explain more details instead of rushing. During the poster session many researchers gathered very narrow space and is difficult to see other posters in the same row. If you keep posters corresponding to A in one row and in opposite row you need to keep posters corresponding to B so that we can avo

-Presentation by A. Zetti: 1 CNT as a total radio, movie of CNT while sending sound, with sound!! Very impressing!!
What I do not like on NT: Too high focuse on Raman. After 3 NT I now hate Raman. Raman-warning should be broadcasted 5 months in advance (which day it is not necessary to participate! and Raman presentations limited to 1 day.)
    Whishes for the future NTs:
-More presentations from industry, their research and possible future applications
-presentations about state of the art on SWNT + MWNT production, producers and tonnage
-exhibition of todays products with CNT, and possible future application (pilot show pieces)

It was a superb idea to spread out the posters so that posters from sessions D, E, and F were alternating on the boards, especially as previous poster sessions were far too crowded and hot. The new system may have been confusing to some delegates but the fact that posters from the same session were (almost) always facing the same direction on the boards significantly improved the accessibility for each poster.

In my opinion, the overall organization was excellent as well as the scientific quality of works presented. However, I have two comments:
    - The poster sessions have probably suffered a bit from the lack of space (poster panels a bit too tight);
    - What about the possibility, in future NT conferences, of having short presentations given by young researchers, in the form of "appetizers" or something like that, in a very informal way and on specific topics, that can also be "self organized" by the participants?

-improve the search function which is not satisfactory yet
    the website in general :

Best part were the talks. Conference is small enough that I could attend ALL the talks. Papers discussed were very interesting - great job on the part of the committee to sift through this and pick out the ones that were the most stimulating.
    Areas that could be improved:
    a) The three tutorials were more like lectures. Because of the format of the auditorium, with the poor lady running all over to hand the mic to the questioner, this did not make it conducive to ask questions i.e. either to interrupt the speaker or at the end. I realize quite bit of planning and thinking will need to be put into this - and it also depends on the environment.
    b) The posters....these were a chore!!! The reasons being: (i) "Channel" spacing between posters barely wide enough to fit 2-3 people - making it extremely difficult and uncomfortable to move about to get to individual posters (ii) climate control was not consistent with the thermals generated by the high number density of the folks running around in the hall - again making things difficult (iii) presenters not present at their posters - annoying because to get around and then come back to look for them aga
    c) I started my registration process in January and still many things were not clear to me. Communication with folks was slow and I was concerned that my paperwork had not gone through. The website was confusing with the "voucher" approach...there should be some explanation about the registration and payment processes.
This was my first NT conference...and I hope to come back to many more and also make a contribution!!! THANKS!!!

It is a very good idea on preliminary presentation of posters, maybe some time could be foreseen also for general discussion on each poster session? In such a case the choice of the best posters would be more understandable and transparent for all the participants not only for organizers. Maybe general discussions could be organized also for the different blocks of oral&invited presentations? It would be also important to strengthen connection between the satellite workshops and NT conference, otherwise

    Good points:
-very nice handling of 700 people conference, the corum was the right size.
-good food (well, that France) and nice place for the dinner.
-rather hight number of contributed talk
    Bad points:
-poster session ABC crowded (fixed for the other session)
-poster presentation is a good idea (regarding the number of contribution) and I can understant this is a tedious task. Most of the speaker made a great job, not all speakers however (well, making fun of one's picture or title is something you can expect in kindergarden, not at an international conference...). So next time, try to chose somebody serious.
-one of the three excursion does not drive to a cave, so those who take warm clothes and stay in sun were not too happy...

    One more feedback to add:
The talks were really excellent. But there is only so much notes that one can take and try to absorb within the given span of time. I think the committee should arrange it so that all the talks are available electronically during the conference after the day of the talk. They should communicate to the speakers that this will be the arrangement and it will help us immensely to be able access this information. There should not be an issue of proprietary material - since it has already been disclosed.
At the moment, I am still waiting for these talks to be available on-line. We were assured at the conference that this would happen in the week following the conference and as of the 9th of July, this has not happened yet. I hope someone is actively looking into this and will resolve this as soon as possible.

The Nanotube conference has experimented over the years with the poster sessions and I think this has been beneficial. The current system with c. 20 min introduction or overview should be kept. However, at NT08 the sessions themselves, at the posters, were often way too crowded in the "posteralleys".

    Positive:
    - structure of the conference (no parallel sessions, enough time for poster viewing, introduction of posters)
    - organisation ran smoothly
    - good and prestigious speakers, keynote speeches were inspiring
    - food :-)
    Negative:
    - too little emphasis on the application of nanotubes, especially in the biomedical field
    - for speakers: next time combine two devices (remote control and laser pointer) into one device... body language becomes difficult when both hands are occupied

For my part, the NT08 conference @ 99.99 % a success ! There's of course some improvements to do (nobody's perfect). But first I would like to congratulate organisers and people that worked all along this event to make it a success. It was a real pleasure to be there ! And "Montpel" had been a city of choice... :)
Very interested talks, I have a lot of ideas to develop now ! Even if the number of partcipants to the NT conferences is growing it's very fruitfull to meet people, to exchange ideas so I will not complain about the number of people present during this event.
The thing I liked a lot was the possibility given to PhD students to have talks, that's very nice opportunity to make them know within the "CNT community"
High quality of talks of course during both satellite workshops & talks at the conference. It's very motivating to attend such a meeting and meet people from different areas (I'm a physicist). I'm always eager to learn things on Chemistry & Biology, especially when we are talking about CNTs ! :) And collaborations between physicists, biologists & chemists, etc are of great importance in this the CNTs field.
Beside that, dinners and excursions are a very good idea to meet peole in a different way as during poster sessions or after talks, it's better to know people when we are relaxed. I think it helps also a lot for our work. And of course I won't talk about the food and people working for the organisation of this event, it was simply great ! Thanks a lot all of you !
Nevertheless, talking about things that could be improved. The nominated ones are:
    1. During the poster sessions (A, B & C) there was clearly a lack of space. We couldn't really discover posters and talk with people about their work. The place between walls was too crowded indeed. It sometimes seemed like a Saturday afternoon in supermarket :) Poster sessions D, E & F were in contrary well organised...
The interesting thing to do would be also to keep posters during the whole conference (but it's probably not that easy to deal with a still increasing number of posters...)
    2. If satellite workshops could be organised not in the same time that would be very great for people interested in different areas...
    3. Regarding the abstract book. What if the book was made with "by day" sections instead of presenting Keynotes lectures, Invited and Contributed talks, then only poster sessions following all each other...
For instance, Monday: Keynotes lectures, Invited and contributed talks, then the poster sessions of this day. And so on for Tuesday, etc... It would be faster for searching abstracts and could avoid to get lost sometimes.
Once again, congratulations for the NT08 conference & thank you a lot ! A great success !

Generally speaking the conference was well organized. The hosts were nice, the location was great and the food was excellent. But as you are looking for way to improve here are some comments:
Costs: If one wishes to keep the original spirit of NT, one has to think about the continuously climbing costs of the conference.
Poster session. The setting for the poster sessions was not as nice and convenient as last year. For one thing, the separation bewtween the dividing walls was way too small with the result that all looked like sardines in a microwave oven.
I would suggest to have the poster sessions NOT divided in themes but rather each session containing an equal proportion of the themes. This way participants can look for work of their interest every day and will not miss most of the work related to their theme of interest.
Graphene vs NT: Although I understand and appreciate the connection between graphene and NT, I personally feel that graphene should be excluded from the conference, unless it use explicitely to make a point about CNT. The field of NT is so vast by itself that it does not need to be extended with 2-d plane materials. There are plenty of beautiful research on NT that could have been presented orally instead of the way too numerous talks on graphene. If so where is the end? Should the conference hence be c
Finally: I think the people asked to make summaries of the poster sessions should restrain themselved about unreserved and unwarranted jokes about people. Firstly, this hurts people and secondly there is already not enough time to provide a proper summary without reducing the time available with unwarranted jokes. I am speaking particulalry about Ferrari's summary. Perhaps one should think of extended the time alloted for the summary even if it means two fewer oral talks per days

-far too much graphene!! this conference, as indicated in its title, is specific to NANOTUBES. as interesting and closely related as graphene is, it is not a nanotube and should not be a major focus of the NT conferences. Nanotube research already has an extremely broad scope; further diluting it by accepting and focusing on other nanomaterials is not beneficial to the conference. I suggest that graphene either be moved to a satelite workshop, or form its own conference.
-with such high attendance it was much more efficient (and enjoyable) to have a delocalized distribution of food & drink at the various receptions (a la Brazil) rather than the stationary food and drink tables in Montpellier. You spend far too much time waiting in lines and less time socializing.
-excellent organization and execution in general
    -Poster sessions were excellent
    -tutorials were very good
-perhaps the emphasis could be made to have the contributed talks be given by students/postdocs. The keynotes and invited talks can still be given by more senior researchers & experts.

Overall the conference in Montpellier was well organized, the lectures were properly timed and poster sessions were very informative. This kind of arrangement consisting of few talks and more posters helped in putting more research on the platform.
One suggestion would be to increase the time of Poster sessions, may be cut short the student talks since anyways there are posters for that stuff. I felt that i did not have enough time to look at all the posters.
Great job overall!! Keep it up in Beijing.

But... the first part of poster sections were organized in rather poor manner. There was not enough space for people, which caused really bad access to posters and horrible traffic among the posters....it was really stuffy...
And...I also suppose that it would be great to have someone responsible at the receiption... This time there were few people who could not resolve thechnical problems if they appeared. Only thing they could do is to provide you with badges etc and to push you to look for someone who probably (but not necessary) could discuss the problem by your native (french) language...

I really enjoyed the conference which I found particularly interesting. I also especially enjoyed the keynotes lectures. There are two things that I though disliked: I found the posters too crowded (too many posters for too little time to watch and discuss on them) and I found that there was too little time (and too few talks)focused on the applications of NT. It would have been nice, according to me, not to condense all the application fields together nor on one poster session. I think that a 50/50 ration between NT characterization/growth and NT applications would have been interesting. Nevertheless I thank the organizers for this successful conference!

half-half division of time/number between posters and talks. Talks are few on NT08 and are taking more of the time, and leaving not much time for huge amount of posters.
Maybe in the future, a filtering procedure in terms of quality for submissions will be necessary.

    Liked least:
Poster organization. Either the conference should accept less posters or look into more spacious venues for posters. Having said this, I believe the from 2nd day on, the organization was already much better.
    Sugegstion:
It would be very beneficial to the discussions/questions that the more senior professors spread around the audience instead of clustering up front. This may encourage questions from the whole audience, and maybe even some student questions.

    - The posters presentation is a very good thing but the presenters should avoid excess joking with the scientific work or pictures.
    - I believe that the applications going to the market should be also a subject of discussion at this conference. I would like to hear invited speakers from the companies R&D.

I loved the crowd of researchers and their enthusiasm.
I didn't like how some parts of NT'08 were organized (conference website, registration procedure, program handouts w/o titles and specific timing of presentations, mandatory lunch / conference tour & banquet participation, mess with the excursion to the cave, etc.).
I believe the registration fee of 1000 Euro that I had to pay was way too high! It created unnecessary complications for me while justifying my attendance of the conference to the management of the
company where I work (cost-benefit problem).

I believe that the organizers did a great job overall with NT08. The dream was to bring together a huge number of expert scientists and novices in the nanotube field in an open atmosphere, where each single result is respected. This setting was combined with presenting the best of the best in oral contributions. Achieving this in an informal atmosphere with 700 participants is extremely nontrivial. As a matter of fact, I know of no other conference, where this was achieved better with so many participants (please challenge me on this claim withe examples if you know of some!!)

I feel also very happy about the large response and the many suggestions for improvement. This tells me that we are a caring community. Constructive critique does not diminish the glory!

I am adding my nit-picky piece of critique, this time to badge manufacturers. A badge with one hole rotates and is useless 50% of the time. Let us use badges with two holes (used in Brazil) that rotate less.

I enjoyed the posters. I suggest more time should be reserved for poster session. At the same time I didn't think prizes should be given as long as judges are not serious about their duties. Colleagues mentioned that no judge show up to their posters.
