Symposium Venue

The CCTN07 Symposium Venue is the National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (Inmetro) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Inmetro is located in the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area, 20 minutes from Rio de Janeiro International Airport and 50 minutes from the Copacabana and Ipanema districts.

How to Get There: Local Transportation

  • From the Rio de Janeiro Galeao / Antonio Carlos Jobim International airport (GIG) to Copacabana:

You can get from the airport to Copacabana by taxi or by bus.

Regular licensed taxis in Rio are yellow and can be easily recognized. Refrain from using any type of unlicensed transportation. Taxis from GIG to Copacabana cost about R$ 45 and can be taken just outside the terminal. Just walk out and you'll see a line of yellow taxis. Ask to go to Copacabana, say (or show a written note with) your hotel name and address, and make sure to ask how much it will cost in advance (in Portuguese "Quanto custa?"). Don't accept any offer exceeding R$ 50. The taxi ride lasts 40 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on the traffic. Traffic is usually bad before 9 a.m.

This procedure is very safe, but if you still prefer to buy your taxi tickets inside the airport, you can (just outside the baggage claim area) -- it may cost you about R$ 80.

Air-conditioned airport shuttle buses go to Copacabana and are equally safe, although the ride may take longer (at least one hour). But they are very cheap (R$ 5.50). Just look outside the terminal for white buses from a company called "Real". Make sure to ask if the bus goes to Copacabana (there are buses to other destinations as well), and ask the the driver that you want to stop at "Avenida Princesa Isabel" (the first stop in Copacabana).

  • From Rio Copa Hotel to Inmetro:

The buses will depart from Rio Copa Hotel to Inmetro at precisely 8:00 a.m. Please be there at least 15 minutes in advance.

Local Information: Money Exchange

There are many places for exchange foreign currency inside the airport. The best deals are offered at the American Express store in Terminal 2, but rates don't vary much. One can also withdraw cash from ATM's using credit cards.

Onward Transportation to NT07

If you attend the conference in Ouro Preto, you are bound to stop over in Sao Paulo or, preferably, in Rio de Janeiro. Thus, no additional flight segments are required if you attend CCTN07 satellite meeting in addition to NT07.

Relatively inexpensive flights from the Rio de Janeiro Galeao airport (GIG) to the Belo Horizonte Confins airport (CNF) can be booked and purchased on-line on Brazilian airline companies, such as TAM and GOL.
